to Nicki Minaj's mix tapes from the years before super-stardom found this
talented actress, it's hard not to notice the bisexual undertones in many of
her lyrics. Of course, this started the rumors and gossip, and now Nicki's
sexuality has come under debate several times.
Is
Nicki Minaj dating girls, as fellow superstar Rihanna has allegedly been? Is it
a misunderstanding? A marketing ploy? While the answer is, of course, Nicki's
own private business, it's hard not to speculate.
An
openly bisexual female in the world of music isn't something that turns many
heads these days. When a publication asked Nicki if being an openly bisexual
artist made her believe that hip-hop as a whole was becoming more gay-friendly.
While Nicki's answer didn't confirm the implied question-within-a-question, she
didn't deny anything.
Nicki
has allegedly made comments regarding some female celebrities, including
recording artist Cassie and actor Lauren London. Whether the comments were said
in a joking manner or more seriously is up for debate. Nicki was spotted, however,
acting very cuddly and holding hands with Cassie at a concert. Now, lots of
girls are cuddly, so this can hardly be taken as proof of anything, one way or
the other. Neither can the playful online flirting between Minaj and Rihanna,
which has some gossip-hounds drooling.
With
Nicki's more recent relationship headlines being strictly male, linked to
fellow hip-hop artist Drake, perhaps the bisexual questions will die down. The
bigger question, however, is why they're such a big deal in the first place?
Nicki
Minaj has openly embraced the gay rights movement, which added fuel to the
gossip fire. We're wondering why supporting people should cause questions.
Can't this talented artist take a stand for human rights without sparking
debate? Apparently not.
Instead
of questioning Nicki's sexuality, a better use for our brain cells would be
taking a cue from this compassionate rapper and opening our hearts to people of
every orientation. Gay, straight, bisexual or otherwise, Nicki's message on
this issue appears to be one of acceptance and equality...and that's a lesson
we could all stand to learn!
So
what' the bottom line here? Well, there really isn't a bottom line. We think
giving the girl a break about who she dates would be a great start. After all, our
own love lives are complicated enough, right? We certainly wouldn't want
cameras following us around all the time and asking about who we're dating,
what our orientation might be or why we choose to support the rights of others.
As fun as it is to speculate on who a celebrity is dating, it's also good to
remember that they're just people, like you and me.
If
your thirst for all things Nicki is truly unquenchable, then you don't really
have to worry. We're fairly certain that the second this star is spotted dating
a girl, it will create headlines everywhere! In the meantime, let's just let
Nicki do what she does so well...support others, inspire us with her unique
style and, of course, create amazing music!
